Ida B…and Her Plans to Maximize Fun, Avoid Disaster and (Possibly) Save the World by Katherine Hannigan

February 12th, 2008

Ida B Applewood is a 5th grader who has been home-schooled from the time she was 5 years old.  That was after she spent two weeks and three days in kindergarten at Ernest B. Lawson Elementary School being called “Ida” instead of “Ida B”.But one day disaster strikes as Ida’s mom gets cancer.  To pay for the hospital bills, they have to sell something dear to her heart, the orchard with the trees she considers her friends.  Her dad tells her the new owner will cut them down.  And the worst of all, Ida will have to go back to school. If you are a person who loves and appreciates nature, or like to read about people overcoming challenges, this is the book for you.   –Yuri 4th period
